Governing body skills audit

Model skills audit for Catholic schools and academies.

Governing bodies and boards need to ensure that they are no bigger than they need to be and that those on the governing body or board have the skills required to contribute to the effective governance and success of the schools for which they are responsible.

Skills Audits

Governing bodies and boards are therefore required to carry out 'skills audits' to assess the skills and experience across the governing body or board. To help schools achieve this aim, we have produced a model skills audit for use by Catholic schools and academies and it is suggested that an audit is completed prior to each appointment in order to establish what knowledge gaps exist. This information can then be provided to the diocese or religious order trustees to ensure that appropriate appointments are being made.
