About The Catholic Education Service

Our mission and purpose

We represent the Bishops’ national education policy in relation to the 2,169 schools, colleges, academies and universities for which the Church is responsible in England and Wales.

What we do

We negotiate with the UK and Welsh Governments and other national bodies in order to safeguard and promote Catholic education. We also offer a Catholic contribution to English and Welsh educational debates, seeking to ensure the principles of Catholic teaching are reflected in all aspects of national education policy.

Our history

The story of Catholic education in England and Wales is a long one, from founding the very first schools and universities to educating generations of disadvantaged children.
