Formatio for governors

Ensuring effective school governance

We provide training and networking opportunities for governors to support them in nurturing Catholic education where they are.

Governance in Catholic Schools

We believe that effective school governance ensures that Catholic schools are capable of developing young people academically and spiritually.

There are 2,200+ Catholic schools in England and Wales, each with its own local governing body. These bodies play a vital role in maintaining and developing the Catholic character and operational effectiveness of their respective schools.

Online Leadership Course

We have designed a suite of online modules for governors in Catholic schools that introduce them to the fundamentals of the Church, the distinctiveness of Catholic schools and the responsibilities and expectations of governors therein.

Church School Governance Online Training Programme

This programme supports governors and trustees committed to improving provision and outcomes for children and young people. The programme has been developed by experts and professionals with a background in church school leadership, governance and inspection.

Become a governor

Catholic schools and academies across England and Wales are regularly seeking committed individuals to serve as governors.

If you are over 18 year of age and a practising Catholic, your skills, experience and faithfulness could be vital for supporting the work of a Catholic school in England or Wales. More information is available from the Catholic Education Service and your local dioceses.

You can also express your interest in a role as a school governor and find and complete high-quality training programmes related to school governance, on the Governors for Schools website.
