The CES Census

Census 2025

The Census offers crucial insights into Catholic education, guiding policy at various levels and supporting the promotion of Catholic education.

Census 2025

England | 16th Jan – 14th Feb

Wales | 21st  Jan – 14th Feb

The 2025 CES census begins on 16th January (21st in Wales) and must be completed by 14th February. Visit our getting started page to begin and make your submission once you're ready.

A decade of data

The census remains the most accurate report of Catholic education in England and we are now able to reflect on almost a decade’s worth of precise data. It is one of the most vital tools in monitoring and promoting the success of the country’s largest single provider of secondary school education and second largest provider of primary school education.

Not only does the census give us the ability to present highly accurate information about Catholic schools in England but it also provides us with the essential data needed to monitor long-term trends in Catholic education. As such, the information from the census is invaluable in our discussions with our government partners, parliamentarians, local authorities, and the media.

Data and the Census

The annual CES Census is the source of all school data collected by us. No data on individual pupils is collected in the census. The name of the headteacher is collected, as well as a contact name and email address which are used solely for census communications the following year.

A document that describes the extent to which the CES census falls within the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) can be downloaded below. This document addresses questions that we have received from schools that raised concerns about the census and privacy of school data.
